Email is widely used by both private users and various organisations which has caused it to become a popular tool for hacker attacks.

A message, usually with a specially prepared attachment or link leading to a pre-prepared page, is sent by the hacker. If security systems fail to detect this type of mail, it ends up in the user's inbox and whether or not they will open such a dangerous attachment depends only on their vigilance and knowledge. This situation is very dangerous but also largely preventable.

The main mail protection systems are mail gateways which filter spam and often check its content for malware. These solutions effectively protect the mail system against known threats because they analyse file signatures. This functionality is enhanced and complemented by sandbox systems that analyse potentially dangerous files in a safe, isolated environment before delivering or blocking a checked message.
